INSECTS
Insect in Amber

Insects, despite their fragility, are common fossils in some fresh water deposits and are well represented in amber. The earliest insects are found in the Devonian deposits of Scotland and become numerous in the Carboniferous coal swamps.

This insect in amber is a midge. The amber comes from the Baltic area of northern Europe and is of Eocene / Oligocene age.
